Favàritx Lighthouse

A lighthouse to remember

The Favàritx lighthouse is not the tallest or the oldest, but it is the favorite. It is located in one of the most E points of the north coast of the island and its white tower with its characteristic black spiral gives it a very special look.

This lighthouse was built in the early twentieth century in an attempt to remedy the shipwrecks that still occurred in the north of the island (despite the illumination offered by the existing Cavallería lighthouse).

Its environment is framed within the natural park of S’Albufera des Grau and is of a wild beauty with its rocky cliffs and lunar appearance, making it a place of special interest among locals and tourists who long to take an indelible memory … and, just in case the memory fails, an everlasting photo.

What to see in Favàritx lighthouse?

Honestly the best thing you can do is watch the sunset. Wait until the sun begins to fall and the reddish colors invade the sky, because at that moment the show begins.

It is then, from up here, when you will be able to enjoy unspeakable views. You will see the volcanic environment darkening as the light dims, hear the sound of the waves breaking against its sharp rocks and witness the last rays of the sun falling, just before disappearing, will be multiplied in the reflection of the sea waters.

Of course, if you want more, Favàritx can offer more. If you follow the Camí de Cavalls you will find in the surroundings of the lighthouse other places of interest and great beauty. Do not miss the beautiful coves of Presili and Cala Tortuga, two pristine coves relatively close to the lighthouse that have no waste.

How to get to Favàritx Lighthouse by boat?

To reach the Favàritx lighthouse by boat, we will have to leave the port of Mahón heading SE, leaving the dock to starboard. We will continue through the port until we reach the open sea (up to Punta de Sant Carles).

At this point, we will leave the San Carlos lighthouse to starboard, and continue to port along the coast (heading NE). We will pass La Mola and Punta de S’Espero, to advance in a NW direction (always sailing with the coast to port).

We will pass Cap Negre, Punta de Sa Galera and, finally, Punta de sa Cudia. On the port side we will see an inlet that leads to Es Grau and in front we will have Illa d’en Colom. We will have to overcome it leaving it on the port side and continue in a NW direction until we pass the Cap de Mossen Vives and the Escull den Tortuga.

If we continue straight ahead, we will see the Cap de Favàritx and its unmistakable lighthouse.
