Parejals Cove

A capricious cove

Part of the charm of this small beach lies in its location, as this cove is located in a small cave that can be reached by walking along the Camí de Cavalls.

It is said that the Cala de Parejals is capricious and you only see her when she wants you to. The reality is that sometimes the rise of the sea hides it and, other times, visitors do not know where to look for it and end up, unknowingly, in the wrong place and is that, very close to Cala Parejals, there is a fisherman’s hut located on a cave, the Cova des Pardals, which invites error.

Here we find the reason for the confusion of many tourists who either do not find the cove because it has disappeared under water, or they confuse it with Pardals and stay there thinking they have found Cala Parejals.

Although there is frequent confusion between the two, they are different beaches with different characteristics. For example, in Cala Parejals there is sand, while in Cova des Pardals you will find rocks, with stairs carved into the stone itself that were once used by a sailor who used the cave as a shelter for his boat.

However, if there is one thing they have in common, it is that both are very small and can hold a small number of people, so you should feel lucky if you manage to get to them and, in addition, find a place to enjoy them.

Cala Parejals is so small that the origin of its name comes precisely from the number of people that can fit, which are two. It has turquoise water and white sand, inside a cave that generates a very charming atmosphere. A perfect setting for a special date.

You will have to walk 1km to reach this cove, although the distance is short, it is not advisable to walk with flip-flops, it is recommended to wear proper footwear because the road is not always well conditioned, sometimes there are stones or rocks, without proper footwear, can hurt you.

It is not a cove where you can spend the day, because the space is very small and there are always people passing by visiting this corner. For a day at the beach you should go to Playa de Son Xoringuer or Cala en Bosch, which are very close to Cala Parejals.

Getting to these beaches is very easy, if you come from Ciutadella, you must leave the city by the southern ring road, following the signs to Cap d’Artrutx or Cala en Bosch. Continue straight on this road until you see more signs for Playa Xoringuer, which is the closest to Cala Parejals, and on the left hand side you will find free parking to park your car or motorcycle.

You can rent your boat in the marina of Cala en Bosch, or ask at the hotel where you are staying about the best options for this type of rentals. The charter office will inform you about areas to avoid, areas where you cannot anchor and where you will find the best beaches or areas for your plans. Near this area there is a reef and an underwater power line of Menorca and Mallorca, ask about this when you go to rent it.

What to see and do in Cala Parejals

Being such a small beach, it lends itself to little activity beyond enjoying a small cove in small company. However, if you go a little further away you can go to any of the nearby coves and beaches where you can book your favorite nautical activities. In Playa Xoringuer and Cala en Bosch, two of the most frequented beaches in Menorca during the summer season, water sports such as windsurfing or parascending, as well as diving and snorkeling are usually practiced. They will offer you everything you need to enjoy a day full of adrenaline.

If you want to go hiking, you can continue the route along the Camí de Cavalls and visit the next beach, since this path runs along part of the coast of Menorca and through it you can reach the best coves of Menorca, both in the south and in the area of Ciutadella.

In addition, and although this beach has no nearby services, it is located relatively close to Cala’n Bosch and Playa de Son Xoriguer (about 1.5 km away), and these are areas with urbanizations where you will find several restaurants and bars where you can have lunch or dinner, without having to go too far from the beach and where you can taste typical products of Menorca: Menorcan sobrasada, Mahon cheese, homemade pastries, rice dishes, lobster stews… etc…

The gastronomic richness of Menorca is partly due to the quality of the raw material, especially the main protagonist of its dishes, the fish and seafood of the day. The process of these products is very fast, they practically go from the sea to the table, providing an exquisite flavor and very different from other areas, especially in those where there is no coastline.

If you are looking for something informal for tapas, you can try Las Tapas or 2Rock. They have pinchos, tapas, sandwiches and other dishes with a good value for money and where you can enjoy a nice dinner or lunch with your family. If you go for dinner, book on the terrace, the Menorcan sunsets should be enjoyed in the street.

On the other hand, if you are looking for more formal options, restaurants where you can eat a good seafood rice, lobster rice or seafood stews, Aquarium, El Pato, On Egin or Es Tast de na Silvia, will present you with exquisite dishes that will captivate the most delicate palates. A highly recommended gastronomic experience to fully enjoy this gastronomy.
