Cala Racó d’es Mart in Menorca, how to get there?

Getting to Racó d’es Mart is very easy, you have access by car, motorcycle, bike, public transport or on foot. As we have already mentioned, it is located south of Post d’en Gil and west of Cala en Blanes, very close to the urbanization Cala de Blanes and Cales Piques, you can’t miss it! In addition, you will find signs indicating the beach to make it easier for you to get there. If you go by car, bike or motorcycle, the way to follow will be the same, however, if your transport is different, you may arrive better with other routes. For example, if you want to access on foot, you can take the stage that goes from Cala Mitjana to Cala Macarella, halfway along the route you will find Racó d’es Mart.

You can also get to Racó d’es Mart by public transport from different places, taking line 61. You will have access from Ferreries and Cuitadella de Menorca. Depending on the departure point it will take more or less time, it is estimated between 75 and 90 minutes from the nearest point, which is the municipal cemetery of Ferreries, to the farthest point, which is Son Xoriguer, in Ciutadella de Menorca. The stop is not on the beach itself, but it will drop you off nearby and you will have to walk a short distance to get there.

And, if not, you can always rent a boat in Menorca and go to the areas where anchoring is allowed to make the most of your vacation. In the area of Racó d’es Mart is perhaps not the best place to anchor, as the beach is quite small and there are other areas of better quality for anchoring in Menorca, such as Pont d’en Gil, from where you will see a spectacular sunset, and you can pass with your boat under the bridge if it is small, or any of the coves in the south, the most spectacular of the island.

What can we do in Racó d’es Mart?

It is located near Ciutadella, south of Pont d’en Gil and west of Cala en Blanes, also known as Cala Mart or Canaló des Mart. It is a small beach of 4 meters wide and 25 meters long, with a fairly small sandy swimming area, for this reason there are usually not many people, even in high season.

Parking is feasible in the surrounding streets, where there is a nearby housing development. You can access the beach from different short paths, you can’t get lost. It is the perfect setting for those looking for quiet beaches with few people, and especially for those who do not like sand and prefer rock. However, in high season any beach in Menorca can be susceptible to fill up from one moment to another, so if you visit the island in high season, we recommend you to come early to avoid parking problems and ensure your place on the beach.

The beaches of Menorca lend themselves to numerous activities with which to have a great time, such as snorkeling. Racó d’es Mart is a very good area for snorkeling due to the amount of rocks and oceanic posidonia where there are plenty of species and marine ecosystems typical of the Mediterranean Sea, specifically in the Balearic Islands area. You will discover from side to side the amount of fish, crustaceans, algae, aquatic plants, and other species that surround the island and abound in the waters near our shores. In addition, another of the activities that can be practiced in this area is fishing, and being a beach with little traffic, the scenery is perfect for the presence of fish that can take the bait.

It is also important to inform about what things are not allowed in this beach, for example, pets are not allowed, diving is not recommended, it is not a camping area, nudism is not allowed, there is no pier, showers or toilets, and it is not a permitted water sports area. Please note that there is no lifeguard service even in high season. There are no beach bars in this area, nor children’s playgrounds or swings.

Culture in Racó d’es Mart

If you want to spend the day in the area, you can organize excursions to nearby areas, such as Hipogeo de Torre del Ram, an archaeological site of funerary character and belonging to the Bronze Age, located in the urbanization Cala en Blanes, 1.7 km east of Racó d’es Mart. Es Castellet des Pop Mosquera, another archaeological site of pretalayotic Menorcan settlement origin, located in the northwestern part of Ciutadella de Menorca and about 2km from Racó d’es Mart. The Torre de Bajaolí, a paramilitary watchtower and defense tower, built by Spaniards dedicated to engineering in the army at the end of the 17th century and 1.7 km from Racó d’es Mart.

How to get to Cala Racó d’es Mart by boat?

To reach Racó d’es Mart by boat, we must leave the port of Mahón heading SE. We will sail along the coast, leaving Illa del Rei to port.

We will continue out to the open sea, leaving the Punta de Sant Carles lighthouse to starboard.

Following the coastline in a southerly direction we will pass the outcrops of Na Girada and Punta Rafalet. We will continue skirting the island, which will take us in a SW direction and leave Punta Prima and Punta dels Marbres to starboard. At this point we will have the Illa de l’Aire on our port side.

Following the coastline, we will head in a NW direction and ascend passing Cabo Binibeca, Illot d’en Marçal, Cap d’en Font, Cap de ses Penyes, Illot de Binicodrell, Punta de Macarella, Punta des Tambors… until we reach Cap d’Artrutx (at the SW end of the island). From here we will ascend in NW direction leaving the Cap de Banyos to starboard, past it, we will find Racó d’es Mart to starboard.
