Teulera Cove

The great unknown

Although they are difficult to find, there are still places on the island of Menorca that go unnoticed by tourists and, even in high season, it is possible to enjoy them without having to fight for available space. Cala Teulera is one of those places.

It is a cove inside the port of Mahón, halfway between the military museum of La Mola and the island of Lazareto (the small island where sailors who docked on the coast were quarantined to ensure that they were not carriers of contagious diseases that could decimate the population of the region).

Cala Teulera is crowned by a defense tower built in the times of British rule and has two small sandy beaches where, in the past, the soldiers of La Mola used to refresh themselves.

A charming space in which to enjoy and relax, away from the hustle and bustle and crowds (very frequent on the island during the summer season).

What does Cala Teulera offer us?

In addition to the possibility of taking a pleasant swim in its waters and enjoying its beautiful scenery, sheltered by the silence that its unknown scenery offers, Cala Teulera has many other charms.

It is possible to organize excursions to see the architectural remains that are very close to the cove: from the British defense tower that crowns the place, to the military museum of La Mola located almost next to it. And, of course, the island of Lazareto is also an obligatory stop. As we mentioned, it was the place used by the Menorcans to isolate the sailors coming from other places and to make sure, before letting them set foot on land, that they were not carriers of strange diseases that could cause uncontrolled contagions that would decimate the population of the island (as, for example, would have happened with the bubonic plague).

Although there are no services available in the cove itself, its proximity to Mahón allows us to enjoy the tranquility that this cove offers, and then move to the port to continue the fun having a drink on the terraces, or taking a pleasant stroll through the area.
